Stirring the deterioration of the health of the oceans. Can the ‘good conference’ change the flow flow? – eSHOP24X7
From June 9 to June 13, the coastal city will be the host of the Nice, the third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3). France and Costa Rika are coefficients for this high -level event, and their goal is to deal with the deepest oceanic emergency, on which scientists continually warn warnings.
The UN under Secretary General of Economic and Social Affairs and Secretary General of this Conference, Lee Junhuu told the UN News that there is an unprecedented crisis fertilizer in the oceans due to climate change, plastic pollution, loss of ecosystems and the excessive use of marine resources.
“We hope this conference inspires the unprecedented ambition, the innovative association and probably a healthy competition.”
The pressure is in the beak. World, scientific, activists and business leaders are gathering at UNC3 for shared efforts to face the crisis that looms over the oceans to guarantee new resolutions, associations and responsibility.
One week conversations are expected to be introduced into a political manifesto and Nice Ocean Action Plan, which will go to the protection of the ocean and its continuous use.
Ocean’s Randado Crisis
This crisis is not a future apprehension. This is happening now. In April of this year, the sea surface temperature touched its second highest level. At the same time, at a large scale, coral rocks in history are being damaged, they are falling white. This can be seen in the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean and parts of the Pacific Ocean.
Coral reefs, about 25 percent, nourish marine species and have billions of dollars for the community of tourism and fishermen, but are disappearing in front of us.
Damage to them can cause anxious consequences for biodiversity, food security and climate tolerance.
And this damage is not limited to this only here. Only 90 percent of oceans are absorbed by excessive heat that emanates due to greenhouse gas emissions. This amount is now touching its limits.
Lee Junhuua said that plastic pollution, loss of biodiversity, oceanic acidication and its growing temperature are related to climate change.
Important stop for change
However, progress has also been recorded in efforts to deal with this crisis. In 2022, the World Trade Organization (WTO) shaped an agreement to stop fish in excessive amounts, which has now stopped the harmful subsidy.
The following year, after a long dead point, member countries approved the ‘high seas’ treaty to preserve maritime life in the international water area. This agreement can now be implemented at the NICE conference.
But only policies cannot exceed this risk that arose in the face of ecosystems. “Global retaliation is inadequate.”
Progress not only depends on the political will, but also needs resources at the same level.

More than 60 percent of marine ecosystems are victims of erosion, or are not used continuously.
Financial resources are required
The ocean contributes significantly to nourish life on earth. They produce about 50 percent oxygen and protect us from climatic extreme effects. But their protection, rescue efforts do not obtain a complete investment.
The 14th objective of the sustainable development agenda focuses on life within the surface of the water, and this objective has achieved the lowest resources in 17 sustainable development objectives.
According to an estimate, the oceanic protection and the restoration of maritime ecosystems will require $ 175 billion annually in the next five years. But during 2015 to 2019, only $ 10 billion were provided.
Ensuring financial resources and investment at adequate levels for these efforts is an important objective of the NIS conference.
Good action plan
The theme of the Ocean Conference (UNOC3) is: Protection and action of food for sustainable use and the Damia on all sides.
For five days, participants will discuss many big questions: how to stop fishing illegally, how to reduce plastic pollution and how to increase economies focused on maritime protection.
There is the possibility of expressing hundreds of new resolutions. Since the first oceanist conference held in 2017, more than two thousand voluntary resolutions have been expressed.
The good oceanic action scheme, Kunming-Mantriyal, will receive a place according to the global biodiversity framework. The agreement on the conservation of biodiversity in 2022 has been called to conserve at least 30 percent of maritime and ecosystems on Earth by 2030.
In addition to the new resolutions, there will also be a formal manifesto in this action plan, a political document has been described as a political document directed by concrete steps.
The political manifesto directed by Australia and Cabo Varde focuses on oceanic protection and sustainable ocean economies, and efforts will be taken to take measures quickly for improvement.
Some important statistics
- Every year, 1.2 million metric tons merged into the plastic oceans, which is equivalent to a truck loaded with garbage per minute. The representatives who participate in NICE will try to carry out a global agreement to deal with plastic pollution in their source.
- 60 percent of marine ecosystems are victims of erosion, or are not being used in a lasting way. This conference aims to strengthen efforts for the conservation of 30 percent of the oceans by 2030 and a road map will be introduced to reduce carbon dependence on marine transport.
- World fish reserves were 90 percent of their safe biological levels in 1970, but in 2021 they have reduced to 62 percent. At the NICE conference, the path for an international fishing agreement is expected to be paved.
- More than three billion people depend on marine biodiversity for their daily lives. The Conference will strengthen the financing of sea -based economies and encourage solutions under the leadership of communities.

Large amounts of plastic, paper, wood, metal and other substances have been dissolved in the beaches and in the depth of the ocean.
From Paris to Nice
This conference in Nice is held a decade after the Paris Climate Agreement. Objectives have been established to reduce the growing global average temperature in the Paris Agreement.
During the NICE conference, there will be a great effort to keep the oceans at the center of climate action and will be an attempt to deal with the distressed crises.
The city of France is not just a host. It is also part of this story. The speed of increasing the Mediterranean temperature is 20 percent higher than the global average and, therefore, is an “access point” in terms of climate change.
This conference really strengthens efforts to protect the health of the oceans or only the pulses of the resolutions, will depend on the measures and solutions to introduce countries, companies and communities.
