The State has registered a strong increase in air connectivity, infrastructure and economic activities. The State is now in a much stronger position on the air traffic map.
A total of 4,788 aircraft movement in 2005-06

Darbhanga Civil Enclave

In 2023-24, there was a movement of 3,335 aircraft from here and more than 5.26 Lakh of passengers, which shows its rapid growth. Today, Darbhanga airport has become an important air connectivity center for people in Mithilachal and North Bihar.
This airport is expanding to international standards so that large aircraft can easily operate. The Bihar cabinet approved 245 million rupees for the acquisition of 90 additional land acres on January 10, 2025. The purpose of this project is to develop Darbhanga airport as an international airport.
Development of other airports
There has been significant progress to strengthen air connectivity in Bihar. The process of development of several airports in Bihar is growing rapidly under the decisions and projects approved by the state government.
1. Raxaul Brownfield Airport
Approval: On January 10, 2025, the acquisition of 139 acres of land was approved by the Bihar cabinet at a cost of ₹ 207 million rupees.
The airport is under the Airport authority of India (AAI) and will be developed by AAI itself.
2. BIRPUR AIRPORT (Supaul)
Approval: On February 4, 2025, the acquisition of 88.83 acres of land was approved by the Bihar cabinet at a cost of ₹ 42.37 million rupees. This airport will be developed under the UDAN scheme.
3. Purnia Civil Enclave
Development work: Fast work is being done on the development of the Purnia Airport (Chunapur), which will strengthen regional connectivity.
For better access from the city of P outa to the airport, the Bihar government has approved a four -lane road project between Goasi to Chunapur. This project will be possible for passengers to be soft and fast to the airport. Its total budget is ₹ 14,86,21,000.
The construction of the interim civil enclave by the authority of the Airport of India (AAI) has begun in March 2025. At the same time, the Department of Construction of Buildings has given the construction work of the airport border wall and its work also began in March 2025.
The project is an important step in empowering air connectivity for P outing and surrounding areas.
4. Bihta Civil Enclave
Project approval: The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has ordered construction work at a cost of RS 459.99 million rupees for the construction of the Bihta airport. This airport construction work will be completed at the end of 2027.
Passenger pressure at Patna airport is high. Bihta airport is developing as an alternative solution.
It will be possible to operate large airplanes such as A-321, B-737-800, A-320 from this airport. The new terminal, the construction of public services, the air highway, the skirting street, the aerodrome system, the security systems, etc. will be included. This will provide industrial and economically new heights, and will be useful in emergency.
Small airport development
The Bhagalpur, Valmikinagar, Birpur, Madhubani, Munger and Saharsa airports, owned by Valmikinagar, Madhubani, Mumer and Sahars ,, as well as the Muzampharpur, Birhubani, Muger and Saharsa airport, as well as the Muzaffarpur airport in the Airport Authority of India (AAI) dialects to develop under the Udaan scheme.
The Bihar Government has given its consent for the development of these airports on January 13, 2025.
